Activities
We are centrally located close to Cambridge, Arapuni, Matamata and Tirau. Lake Karapiro and the Waikato has something for everyone. The area features Maungatautari Sanctuary Mountain. This is the worlds largest fenced ecological sanctuary, & one of NZ's hidden treasures. Some of the best cycle and walking trails, trout fishing & golf are on our doorstep
Maungatautari Reserve
Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari began with a dream to protect the plant and animal species living on Maungatautari. This ancient eco-system has been recognised as a reserve since 1912 and nearly 100 years later the community came together to restore and further protect this precious environment with a pest-proof fence. By removing all mammals from Maungatautari it has provided a safe environment to reintroduce some of New Zealand’s most endangered species back to their natural habitat.
Lake Karapiro
Surrounded by bush and luscious green hills, the lake attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year whether it’s to participate in a major sporting event or simply to have a picnic beside the water.
The man-made lake was formed behind the Karapiro hydro dam in 1947 and today it provides eight square kilometres of calm water beside 19 hectares of land known as the Mighty River Domain.

Cambridge
Cambridge is only a short trip away. Famous for its trees that provide a stunning palette of colours as the seasons change. Visit one of the antique shops, art galleries or walk the heritage trail. And if horses are your thing, Cambridge is the Equine Capital of New Zealand. Some of the world’s best racehorses have been bred here while many thoroughbred and standardbred trainers are based in the district
Fishing
We are within easy reach of many fine fishing spots, whether you like dropping a line over the side of a boat or enjoying fishing from dry land.
The key is the mighty Waikato River, the country’s longest river, as sea-run trout chase whitebait upstream in early spring.
